in the transmissions with another 5 sets of roller bearings for each gear. Isolating the noise to the input bearing would be difficult to do because when the input shaft turns in neutral, it also turns the counter shaft and all gears. The output shaft is the only part that does not turn in neutral and that only eliminates 2 major bearings. Couple all of this with inherent gear noise and I think it would be difficult to definitively say that any one particular bearing is causing the noise. I would raise the rear tires off the ground and do some in-gear testing at idle speeds to see if any particular gear affects the whine for better or worse.
